Guest Speaker: Saturday, 4 June

Tremendous-Buddha-Tattoo-Image-1-520x400 This week, our regular Saturday Dharma talk at 10:15 a.m. will be given by Rev. Zachary Smith, from the San Francisco Zen Center. Everyone is invited to attend the period of seated meditation (J. zazen) beforehand at 9:25 a.m., and stay after the talk for tea-and-cookies upstairs in the living room. A great way to ease into your Saturday! All are welcome.

Dharma Talk: Saturday, 28 May

Buddha+speaks+of+Amitabha+Sutra+b3 This Saturday, the Dharma talk at 10:15 a.m. will be given by Rev. Valorie Beer, a teacher of sewing Buddhist robes in the nyohō-e tradition and a Dharma heir of Rev. Edward Brown. Please feel free to come for seated meditation (J. zazen) at 9:25 a.m., and to stay for tea-and-cookies in the living room afterwards. All are welcome.

Memorial Day Holiday: Zendo Closed…

MemorialDay1Our Meditation Hall (J. zendo) will be closed all day Monday, 30 May, in observance of the national holiday. The regular schedule of seated meditation (J. zazen) will resume at 6:00 a.m. on Tuesday, 31 May. Have an enjoyable holiday, everyone!

Memorial Service for Rev. Zenkei Blanche Hartman: Thursday, 19 May

edited_1463538003550We will hold a memorial service in the zendō at Issan-ji for Rev. Blanche, who passed away last Friday morning. The service will take place at 6:40pm, following the 6pm period of seated meditation. Everyone is welcome.

Saturday Dharma Talk: 14 May 2016, 10:15 a.m.

This Saturday, the regular Dharma talk will be given by our Tantō (Prior), Tanzen David Bullock. Everyone is welcome to attend. Please also feel free to come for seated meditation (J. zazen) beforehand at 9:25, and stay afterwards for tea and cookies in the living room.

Wednesday 28 April: No a.m. Practice

Tomorrow, 28 April, we will likely be closed through the morning schedule. All are agreed hereabouts that it is undesirable to announce Dharma practice events and then not have them, but we are so short of hands for the next week that it is likely unavoidable. We truly apologize for this inconvenience. Evening zazen, however, will take place as usual at 6pm, followed by study hour at 7:30.


Monday, 25 April: NO a.m. Practice

This coming Monday, 25 April, is the last Monday of the month, so we’ll allow the residents a bit more sleep and forego the usual morning practice schedule. However, there WILL be 6 p.m. zazen Monday as usual, so please join
