Guest Speaker: Sat. 11 September 2021 – Rev. Fugan, Gene Bush

Fugan Eugene Bush began formal Zen practice in 1982 and received Dharma transmission from the late Rev. Katherine Thanas in 2010. Gene serves as one of the Practice Leaders of Santa Cruz Zen Center.

He also became a teacher for the Arcata Zen Group in 2013, with occasional forays to Hartford Street Zen Center and to Queer Dharma at San Francisco Zen Center.

Please on the 14th of August, Saturday morning for a Dharma talk by Rev. Ryuei, Michael McCormick, who was ordained to the Nichiren-shū (Lotus Sutra School) ministry in 2001 by Rev. Ryusho Matsuda, of the San Jose Nichiren Temple.

Rev. McCormick is also a long-time practitioner of zazen (seated meditation) and a student of the writings of Dōgen-zenji.

12 June 2021 @ 10:15am – Guest Speaker Rev. Kodo Conlin

Kodo Conlin is a priest, training at San Francisco Zen Center’s City Center. Coming into the practice of sitting in 2006, and ordaining in 2015, Kodo’s orientation in the Dharma is deeply informed by long-term, intensive retreat practice at Southwest Vipassana Meditation Center, Spirit Rock, and two years in residence at Tassajara Zen Mountain Center. Kodo is also a member of the Right Use of Power Teachers Guild. He speaks in Marin at Spirit Rock’s Family Programs, and in San Francisco at Young Urban Zen. Kodo is passionate about deeply realizing the Dharma and sharing the joy of practice.

Please join us for a Dharma talk Saturday, May 15th by Koshin Steven Tierney, Ed.D. LPCC, who is Professor Emeritus of Counseling Psychology at the California Institute of Integral Studies, as well as a psychotherapist in private practice in San Francisco. Steven has been studying and practicing Buddhism for more than 25 years and was ordained by Michael Wenger in 2013, serving as Shuso in 2014.

Steven’s commitment is to a community-based Buddhism and he has spent the last twenty years extending Buddha’s teachings to those living with addictions, in recovery and those facing serious physical and mental health challenges.  A certified addiction specialist, he is the Co-Founder of the San Francisco Mindfulness Foundation providing training, consultation, psychotherapy mindfulness-based mental health services to individuals and families.

20 March – Rev. Kokyo Henkel – Luminous Owl, Guest Speaker

Kokyo currently residing in Crestone, Colorado has served as Head Teacher at Santa Cruz Zen Center. He has been practicing zen since 1990 in residence at Tassajara, Green Gulch Farm, No Abode Hermitage in Mill Valley, and Bukkokuji Monastery in Japan. He was ordained a priest in 1994 by Tenshin Anderson Roshi and received Dharma Transmission from him in 2010.

Kokyo’s interests include looking at how the classic original teachings of Buddha-Dharma from ancient India, China, and Japan are still very much alive and useful in present-day America to bring peace and harmony to this troubled world.
