Hallowe’en/Samhain Closure

In the spirit of the season, our zendō will be CLOSED the evening of Wednesday, 31 October (Hallowe’en), and the morning of Thursday, 1 November (Feast of All Saints). We’ll resume our regular schedule of zazen and chanting at 6pm on Thursday. Have a safe and enjoyable Samhain (pron. SO-en), everyone!

Guest Speaker: Rev. Steven Tierney

Please join us on Saturday 27 October for a Dharma talk by Rev. Steven, priest-ordained by Rev. Dairyu Michael Wenger, and who is a clinical psychologist and frequent consultant to 12-step programs, as well as group facilitator for the Issan-ji community. We’ll have zazen (seated meditation) as usual at 9:25, with the talk to follow at 10:15, and afterwards tea and cookies will be on offer in the living room. Everyone is welcome!

Guest Speaker: Rev. Jeremy Levie – Saturday 9/8

Rev. Jeremy LevieYo-on Jeremy Levie currently serves as Secretary of San Francisco Zen Center.

Formerly head of practice (tanto) for Green Dragon Temple at Green Gulch Farm Zen Center, he also served as director at Green Gulch from 2009 to 2012.

He has trained in residence at San Francisco Zen Center since 1995, having lived at each of the Center’s three temples.

He was ordained by Eijun Linda Cutts in 2005 and trained as head monk (shuso) in 2009.

In addition to his service on the SFZC Board of Directors, Jeremy has also served on the Board of the Marin Interfaith Council.

Jeremy studied philosophy and theater at Yale University and trained as a teacher of Motion Theater improvisation. He continues to be interested in the intersection of Zen practice with Western thought and culture, and co-leads retreats on the meeting of Zen with other disciplines. He currently lives with his wife, Meg, and daughter, Elizabeth, at City Center.
